The G7 countries have accused the Kremlin of covert efforts to undermine elected governments around the world through disinformation campaigns, including propaganda.
This was reported by RBK-Ukraine citing a statement from the G7.
The statement from the G7 Rapid Response Mechanism (RRM) highlights the secretive activities of the Russian state media RT and the Social Design Agency (SDA). It mentions that the Kremlin finances these entities for disinformation and influence campaigns.
"RT and SDA employ deceptive tactics aimed at exploiting social and political issues to polarize and weaken societies, undermine and delegitimize elected governments, and promote harmful Kremlin interests," the G7 noted.
These actions by Russian entities include diverting attention from war crimes in Ukraine and humanitarian crises caused by the aggressive war.
"G7 RRM members will continue to shed light on this harmful activity, which may include, but is not limited to, hostile cyber actions, psychological and informational operations, as well as covert influence," the G7 added.
It is worth noting that in 2025, the presidency of the G7 will pass to Canada. As stated by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, he hopes that partners in the G7 will help achieve a just peace this year.
Earlier, a group of European countries urged the G7 to lower the price cap on Russian oil to reduce Moscow's revenue for continuing the war in Ukraine without causing market shock.
