The appellate court will not allow the administration of President Donald Trump to terminate birthright citizenship for certain immigrant children. This issue may be taken up by the Supreme Court.

The 9th Circuit Court of Appeals rejected an urgent request from the Department of Justice to overturn a ban imposed by a Seattle judge on the enforcement of Trump's order after concluding that the order contradicts the Constitution.

The publication reminds that for decades, under the 1868 amendment to the Constitution and the law preceding it, citizenship was granted to anyone born on U.S. soil, regardless of their parents' immigration status.

Trump aims to end the provision of birthright citizenship to children whose parents are either undocumented or in the U.S. on temporary visas.

The case being considered in the San Francisco appellate court is one of several significant legal challenges to these intentions and the first to be reviewed by an appellate panel.

Recall that in February of this year, a federal judge in Seattle blocked Donald Trump's attempt to limit automatic acquisition of citizenship by birthright. The U.S. Department of Justice stated its intention to appeal the ruling.
