U.S. President Donald Trump announced his intention to revive the rare earth minerals deal, otherwise Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky will not be "too pleased." The American leader was also outraged by the way the U.S. Secretary of the Treasury was received in Ukraine.
This was reported by RBK-Ukraine citing CNN.
"I think I'm going to revive that agreement. Yes, I believe I will restore that agreement; you know, we will see what happens, but I'm going to bring it back, otherwise he (Zelensky - ed.) won't be too happy," Trump stated.
Additionally, he expressed his displeasure regarding the alleged "rude" treatment of U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent during a recent visit to Kyiv, where Ukraine rejected the rare earth minerals agreement.
"Scott Bessent did go there, and he was treated quite rudely because, essentially, they told him 'no,' and Zelensky was asleep and couldn't meet with him. He went there to sign a document and returned empty-handed. They did not sign the document," Trump remarked.
However, it is important to note that Zelensky did meet with Bessent, and there are even photos from their meeting.
Recall that recently, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky pointed out that the agreement on rare earth metals did not specify any security guarantees for Ukraine. He added that during a meeting with U.S. Vice President JD Vance in Munich, they agreed that guarantees should be included in the agreement.
It is worth mentioning that the U.S. offered Ukraine an agreement that would allow access to strategic materials in Ukraine, which is allegedly to be a form of payment for assistance. The document was presented in Ukraine by the U.S. Secretary of the Treasury, but the Ukrainian side refused to sign it.
