The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, is open to an agreement. However, Russia may face economic challenges that could push its leader, Vladimir Putin, towards negotiations.
This was stated by U.S. President Donald Trump, as reported by RBK-Ukraine citing "Voice of America."
During his time in the Oval Office, Trump signed several decrees and answered journalists' questions. He was specifically asked about the war in Ukraine.
In response, Trump said, "Zelensky wants to make a deal." The U.S. President expressed hope that Putin should also be willing to reach an agreement because "he is destroying Russia by not making a deal."
"I think Russia has big problems. Just look at the inflation in Russia... I would hope that he wants to make a deal," Trump added.
Trump also stated that he plans to meet with Putin. He did not reveal any details regarding the possible timing of such a meeting, noting that "it could happen fairly quickly."
Additionally, Trump mentioned that he is trying to achieve the end of the war in Ukraine "as soon as possible" and reiterated his claim that this war "should never have started."
"It wouldn't have started if I were president," he emphasized.
Earlier, we reported that Trump's team is preparing for negotiations and a meeting with Russian dictator Vladimir Putin to end the war against Ukraine. At the same time, the Kremlin announced that it is also ready to meet with Trump.
According to Zelensky, Trump could be decisive in ending the war and is capable of helping to stop the Russian dictator Putin.
It is also worth noting that Trump has instructed to arrange a phone call with Putin. This call is expected in the coming days after the inauguration on January 20, 2025.
