Citizens wishing to secure employment in government service, local self-government bodies, and prosecution authorities must undergo basic military training.
As reported by RBC-Ukraine, this was stated by the Deputy Minister of Defense of Ukraine, Brigadier General of Justice Serhiy Melnyk, during a national television marathon.
According to him, if a citizen has not completed basic military training, then under the law "On Military Duty and Military Service," they are required to fulfill basic military service. Ukrainian citizens who are not currently seeking education can independently undergo this basic training at national resistance centers under local self-government bodies.
"I also want to emphasize that Ukrainian citizens, specifically students seeking higher education who are medically fit for military service, who have failed their examination tests, received an 'unsatisfactory' grade, or refused to take the military oath, will not be able to continue their studies at universities in the future and are obliged to complete basic military service," he explained.
It is worth noting that from September 1, 2025, basic general military training for students will commence. Participation in the program will be mandatory for men and voluntary for women who are studying in full-time or dual forms of education.
RBC-Ukraine has reported on what the draft law on basic general military training entails, which was signed by the president.
