Ukraine cannot win the war initiated by Russia simply by increasing the number of its Armed Forces. Partners need to provide Ukraine with high-tech weaponry and long-range missiles capable of striking targets on enemy territory.
This was stated by MP and member of the Rada's defense committee, Fyodor Venislavsky, in a comment to the YouTube channel RBC-Ukraine.
"Regarding the statements from Trump's team and representatives of the current president about lowering the mobilization age, I would refer to the opinion of President Vladimir Zelensky, who believes that winning the war is impossible just by increasing the number of Armed Forces. The Armed Forces of Ukraine are the most numerous in Europe. The main issue is that it is simply impossible to win a war instigated by Russia by merely boosting the number of Armed Forces," Venislavsky said.
In his view, Ukraine can only win the war through asymmetric actions, achievable through technological impact on targets and legitimate military objectives of Russia. This is why partners must provide Ukraine with high-tech weaponry and long-range missiles to strike enemy targets and weaken its capabilities. With the current number of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, this is feasible.
"When we talk about a hypothetical increase in the number of the Armed Forces, we need to understand that one month is insufficient for training mobilized personnel; it actually takes two to three months, plus mobilization procedures. At best, we would receive a qualitatively trained reinforcement only within 4-6 months. However, we need weapons right now. With the provision of such innovative weaponry, I believe we can achieve more than just by increasing the army," he noted.
At the end of last year, it became known that the US had already begun urging Ukraine to lower the mobilization age to 18. They believe that the main problem of the Ukrainian army is a shortage of personnel.
Despite this, Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky stated that he opposes such an initiative. According to him, age does not matter when Ukrainian warriors still lack weapons.
