The Israeli military-political cabinet has approved an agreement with Hamas for the release of hostages. It will now be submitted for consideration by the Israeli government.

This was reported by RBK-Ukraine citing a statement from the Israeli government.

"After reviewing all aspects: political, security, and humanitarian, and based on the understanding that the proposed deal contributes to achieving the goals of the war, the ministerial committee on national security (military-political cabinet) recommended that the government approve the proposed plan," the statement said.

The office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu added that a government meeting will be held later today, January 17.

Israeli media note that the full government will review the agreement before the start of Shabbat. It is mentioned that the Supreme Court of Israel will still have to hold hearings on the appeal of the agreement's provisions, although it is not expected to intervene.

The Agreement Between Israel and Hamas

Representatives of Israel and the terrorist group Hamas, with the mediation of the United States, Qatar, and Egypt, reached an agreement regarding the Gaza Strip on January 15 that paves the way for a ceasefire. It includes the release of hostages.

As part of the agreement, Hamas committed to releasing Israeli hostages in stages and returning the bodies of the deceased.

Recently, the office of the Israeli Prime Minister accused Hamas of abandoning some agreements within the framework of the deal, which led to the postponement of the government vote. Hamas rejected Israel's accusations.

Already today, January 17, Netanyahu was assured that the first hostages under the agreement will be released without delay, meaning on Sunday, January 19.
