The Veselinovsky District Court of Mykolaiv region sentenced a local resident to three years in prison for evading the draft during the general mobilization.
According to the court ruling in case No. 472/1044/24, published in the Unified State Register of Court Decisions, the man received his summons in May 2024 but deliberately failed to appear at the military enlistment office. In August, he refused mobilization for the second time, as confirmed by relevant documents and testimonies from officials.
“However, he did not show up on the specified date because he refuses to serve in the military, citing four unpaid loans, an unemployed wife, a dependent minor child, and a sick mother. Indeed, he underwent a medical examination, and the doctors declared him fit for military service. In August 2024, he was also handed a second summons to report to the TCK on August 9, 2024, at 8:00 AM, but he again declined to serve. He acknowledges that his actions constitute a crime and has expressed remorse for what he has done,” the court documents state.
In court, the defendant explained his refusal by citing financial difficulties—he had debts, an unemployed wife, a minor child, and a sick mother to care for. Despite this, he passed the medical commission and was deemed fit for service.

The court took into account his ability to work, the absence of legal grounds for deferment, and his formal expression of remorse, after which it decided to impose a sentence of three years of imprisonment.
