Valeriy Kalchenko, a people's deputy of Ukraine for three terms, has passed away.

In Kropyvnytskyi, at the age of 77, the People's Deputy of Ukraine of the V, VI, and VII convocations Valerii Kalchenko has passed away. This was reported by the Parliament's Office.

Valerii Mykhailovych was a Ukrainian politician, serving as a People's Deputy of Ukraine in the V, VI, and VII convocations, as well as the Minister of Ukraine for Emergency Situations and for the Protection of the Population from the Consequences of the Chornobyl Disaster.

As a People's Deputy, he held the position of Chairman of the Subcommittee on Overcoming the Consequences of the Chornobyl Disaster, managing radioactive contaminated areas, and providing social protection for those affected by the Chornobyl disaster. He also worked as part of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine's Commission on Agrarian Policy and Land Relations.

He was awarded the Order of Merit of III and II degrees.
