In Chernihiv, a woman has been suspected of recruiting another woman to enter into a sham marriage with a conscripted soldier. This was reported by the Chernihiv Regional Prosecutor's Office.

It has been established that the Chernihiv resident sought out a woman with a disability of the second group at the request of an acquaintance, who agreed to enter into a fictitious marriage with a man for a monetary reward, thereby creating false conditions for the illegal crossing of the state border of Ukraine.

"The suspect managed to recruit a local resident who was in a vulnerable state due to severe financial difficulties and unsatisfactory health conditions, as she required valuable and long-term treatment for a serious illness and was burdened with related debts and credit obligations," the prosecutor's office noted.

During a personal meeting, she assured the victim of the safety and impunity of such actions, alleviating her concerns and highlighting the opportunity to earn some money.

At the suspect's direction, the victim obtained a medical certificate in advance stating the need for her to receive indefinite regular assistance from a caregiver for further unhindered border crossing.

In the summer of 2023, the couple entered into a sham marriage. A few days later, the woman crossed the state border accompanied by her "pseudo-husband," who supposedly was escorting her. Later that same evening, the victim returned to Ukraine on her own, after which the suspect handed her part of the promised reward.

Currently, efforts are underway to identify other individuals involved in the crime, and necessary investigative actions are being conducted.
