On Tuesday, January 21, the Pechersk District Court in Kyiv will commence the judicial proceedings concerning Lieutenant General Arthur Gorbenko. This event has generated significant public interest, as it involves not only an individual with unique military experience but also one of the heroes of the defense of Kharkiv region.

Arthur Gorbenko is a military figure whose name is well-known in the Ukrainian Armed Forces. Over his 37 years of service, he rose from a platoon commander to a lieutenant general. His life journey exemplifies dedication and selfless service to the homeland. He has been awarded the Order of Bohdan Khmelnytskyi III degree, the "Defender of the Fatherland" medal, the "Steel Cross" badge, and many other honors.

In May 2024, General Gorbenko commanded the 125th Separate Territorial Defense Brigade during a large-scale offensive by Russian troops in the Kharkiv region. The brigade, tasked with holding a front line over 50 kilometers wide, operated under extremely challenging conditions. There were only 6–8 fighters for every kilometer of defense, and there were no reserves available for reinforcement.

“We knew the enemy was preparing for an offensive, but our capabilities were limited. Despite this, we held our positions as long as physically possible,” Gorbenko recalled in an interview.

The units of his brigade not only resisted the enemy's advance but also safeguarded the lives of their personnel. Many of his subordinates note that it was due to the general's actions that significantly greater losses were avoided.

However, now Arthur Gorbenko must defend his reputation in court. He is accused of negligence, which, according to the investigation, allegedly led to the loss of part of the territory in Kharkiv region. At the same time, veterans and military personnel are convinced that these accusations are unjust.

“He was a commander who was always there with the soldiers, made decisions on the battlefield, and cared for the people. We cannot allow such a person to be left without support,” notes one veteran who fought in the 125th brigade.

The court session is expected to start at 10:00 AM. The general's defense will insist on taking into account the real circumstances under which his units operated, as well as his unquestionable merits to the country.

The society is closely watching this case. Veterans and comrades of General Gorbenko are calling for justice and an objective review, emphasizing that the trial of the hero of Kharkiv region will be indicative for the entire state.

This story is not only about military service but also about how the state should treat its defenders. General Arthur Gorbenko deserves respect and support, as his service is an example for all.
