She shared this information on Gennady Kiriya's author's program “Attention: Kiriya”.

The guest of the program explains that previously we had family transplants, and throughout the entire independence of Ukraine, only 7-8 heart transplants were performed, while Ukrainians had to go abroad and wait their turn, although not everyone was able to even wait.

“When we passed the law in 2019, of which I was the author, a heart transplant was immediately performed in Kovel. Not even in Kyiv, not even in Lviv, but in Kovel. Last year, only 70 hearts were transplanted, do you understand? We had never performed bone marrow transplants; people were raising insane amounts of money to transplant children abroad, in Turkey… But now there’s no need to go anywhere, this can be done in our country. And it’s very good that we accomplished this in 2019,” – explains Oksana Dmitrieva.

Additionally, the deputy adds that in Ukraine, bone marrow transplants were performed even during the flooding when borders were closed, airports were shut down, and cells were barely able to be brought in from abroad, and now this operation is performed more than 100 times a year, saving lives. So, she states, the danger lies not in the transplantation law, but in the fact that it might not have been adopted.

“As for illegal transplantation, I have personally witnessed many transplants and seen this process. The number of people involved is so large that it is simply impossible to carry it out quietly,” - notes Oksana Dmitrieva.
