Law enforcement officials have detained the chief psychiatrist of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, who has amassed over 1 million dollars during the full-scale war between Russia and Ukraine by purchasing real estate in the Kyiv region and in Odesa.

According to the SBU press center on Telegram, the special service, with the assistance of the Minister of Defense and the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, apprehended the chief psychiatrist of the Armed Forces. He also serves as the Deputy Chairman of the Central Military Medical Commission, responsible for determining the fitness of military personnel for service.

The investigation has established that the official significantly enriched himself since the onset of the full-scale Russian invasion.

"He acquired unjustified assets worth over 1 million US dollars. Moreover, the individual did not report the corresponding property in his declaration and registered it in the name of his wife, daughter, sons, and other unrelated persons," the SBU reported.

In particular, between 2022 and 2024, the man purchased a private house and two plots of land in the Obukhiv district of Kyiv region, as well as two apartments in the capital and an apartment in Odesa. Additionally, the psychiatrist acquired four luxury cars - a BMW X7 (2024), a BMW X7, a BMW X3 (both 2022), and a BMW X5 (2023). He also acquired other property, details of which have not been disclosed.

During searches, investigators found 152,000 dollars and 34,000 euros in his possession.

The suspect is currently facing charges under two articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine: Article 368-5 (illegal enrichment); Article 366-2 (declaration of false information).

Decisions are pending regarding the imposition of a preventive measure and the seizure of the official's assets. He faces up to 10 years in prison.

As clarified by the Office of the Attorney General of Ukraine on Facebook, the suspect is also the head of the psychiatric clinic at the National Military Medical Clinical Center "Main Military Clinical Hospital." Among his assets is a private house with an area of 285.2 square meters.
